Swampscott To Host 'Black History Is Our History' Event Tuesday Night
Swampscott Unites, Respects, and Embraces Diversity will host the free event Tuesday night at Swampscott High School.
SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott residents are invited to a night of exhibits, food, music, dance and poetry to celebrate how "Black History Is Our History" on Tuesday night at Swampscott High School.
Swampscott, Massachusetts S.U.R.E. Diversity — Swampscott Unites, Respects, and Embraces
Diversity — will host its annual Black History Month Celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
"We want to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of Black Americans to Swampscott, the Commonwealth and the nation, and also illuminate how all of us are impacted and enriched by that history," said S.U.R.E. Chair Keli Khatib.

Khatib said the family-oriented event will include Swampscott poet Enzo Silon Surin sharing his poetry and reflections on the various ways that history and culture mold our identity, perspectives and interactions.
Surin will also lead a forum of residents in this discussion.

The Swampscott High School and Middle School bands will perform, as well as the High School’s Big Blue Steppers. Creative student and family art projects will be highlighted.
The Swampscott Senior Center will provide rides to and from theevent. For a ride, call 781-596-8866
S.U.R.E.'s other popular community projects include Tell Us Your Story (family origins stories of
coming to America), the Map Of Our Ancestors, the Garden of Gratitude and the S.U.R.E. Diversity Book Club.
S.U.R.E. also showcased the film "Intelligent Lives," highlighting the challenges and successes of individuals with intellectual disabilities. It sponsors the Swampscott High School Heritage Festivals, and supports the annual town Pride Day and Juneteenth.
