Busy Week of Activities at the Senior Center

Dances, dinners and charitable events highlight a hectic seven days.

This Friday, November 5th Lee Lewis and the Doo Wop Allstars will be back by popular demand.  Tickets may now be purchased at $15 per person and will also be available at the door.  Why not come on down and enjoy the tunes of the 50's and 60's and get some dancing in as well.  The doors will open at 7:00 and the show and dancing will be from 8:00 to 10:30 PM.  

The Elks Thanksgiving Dinner for Tewksbury Seniors will be held this Thursday, November 4th.  The doors will open at 6:00 PM.  Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM.  Those people utilizing bus transportation should note that pick-up will take place from 4:30 PM. to 5:45 PM.  Please be on the watch for the Tewksbury Transit mini motorcoach.  The exact time at your locations will depend on the amount of people using transportation.

This Saturday, November 6th, the Tewksbury Rotary Club in cooperation with the Tewksbury U.S. Postal Service will be conducting a food drive for the Tewksbury Food Pantry.  Residents may leave non-perishables by their mail boxes for pick-up this Saturday.

This Sunday, November 7, the Seniors will hold their last Breakfast Benefit of 2010.  Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11:00 AM.   The cost is $6 for Adults, $3 for children 12 and under and toddlers are free.   Proceeds from this event will be split between the Senior Center and the Patriotic Committee in hopes to help with the costs of Veteran's Day Celebrations.  The menu includes:  Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Homefries, Beans, Toast and Beverages.  Come on down and start your day with a hearty breakfast and at the same time contribute to the Community Veteran's Celebrations.

The last "Neighborhood Meeting" held by Town Manager, Richard Montuori, and his Department Heads will take place from 7-9 PM on Monday, November 8th at the Trahan School.  These meetings have been scheduled in an effort to meet with the community.  The public is encouraged to attend.

The Patriotic Committee has also scheduled several events to celebrate Veteran's Day.  On Wednesday, November 10th there will be a service held at 8:45 AM at the High School.  For information on the High School service one should call Jim Williams at 978-640-4485.  On Veteran's Day, Thursday, November 11th a service will be held at the Town Common at 10:45 AM.  Finally on Friday, November 12th a Veteran's Day Celebration will be held at the Tewksbury Country Club.  The doors on this evening will open at 7:00 PM and the ticket cost is $15 per person.

Those Seniors traveling to Foxwood next Monday, November 8th are reminded that the bus departs from the Senior Center at 7:00 AM sharp.  Ticket sales for the Mohegan Sun day trip of Monday, December 6 will begin on Monday, December 15th.   The cost of the trip is $21 per person. 

A Fallon Community Health Representative will be the second in the medical coverage information seminars offered at the Senior Center.  This information meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 9th at 10:00 AM.  Additional seminars will be noted as they are confirmed.

The Golden Age Club will hold its monthly meeting at the Senior Center on Tuesday, November 9th at 12:30 PM.  GAC Zingo will follow the meeting.

In the evening on November 9th the Piecemakers will hold their monthly meeting which will begin at 7:00 PM.  A note of Congratulations is extended the Tewksbury Piecemakers on the success and the wonderful display of quilts at its recent Annual Quilt Show.  Awesome event, Piecemakers.

The Tewksbury Board of Health will conduct a Seasonal Flu, H1N1 and Pneumonia Clinic at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street on Wednesday, NOVEMBER 10th during the following times:  9:00 to 11:00 AM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Individual vaccines are available to those 18 years of age and older.   Supplies are limited.  Please bring your insurance cards with you.  Those who have questions may call the Tewksbury BOH at 978-640-4470 or 978-640-4473.

The Tewksbury Garden Club will hold its Annual Gala Event at the  Tewksbury Country Club on November 10th.  Doors will be open at 6:00 PM.  Julie Lapham, the featured speaker, will present and demonstrate her "Holiday Flair" arrangements beginning at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are limited.  One may obtain tickets now at $12 from Garden Club Members and at the Senior Center.  Tickets purchased at the door are $15.  The evening also includes a wonderful "Basket Raffle" and a raffle of the arrangements done by Julie Lapham.  One won't want to miss this gala event.

The Annual Harvest Fair which was scheduled for Saturday, November 13th at the Senior Center has unfortunately been CANCELLED.  

Reservations are now being taken for the Dinner Theater and MEGA Musical "NUNSENSE" which will be held at the Tewksbury Senior Center on November 19, 20 and 21st.  Dinner will be catered by "The Village Inn of Dracut".  The ticket cost is $40.  Ticket reservations will be taken at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursday.  One may also make reservations by calling ACTORS, inc. at 978-984-3151.  Reserve your seats now…for it would be a sin to pass up this opportunity.

Tewksbury Senior Citizens wishing to apply for Fuel Assistance may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480. Younger Tewksbury, Wilmington and Billerica residents may call the Billerica Veteran's Agent at 978-671-0968 or 0969 to apply.   The maximum income allowed for 1 person is $30,751; for 2 people $40,123; for 3 people $49,675 and so on.  When appointments are made, one will be told what paperwork is needed for the application process.

SHINE Counselor, Jill, is at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and is seen by appointment only.  To arrange an appointment, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480.  The SHINE Counselor is available to advise Senior Citizens on medical insurance options.

Tickets are now available for the following Senior Center Events:

  • The DJ Jon Mansfield Afternoon Lunch and Dancing on Monday, November 29th. Tickets are $5 per person and must be purchased by November 24th.  Tickets will be sold at the door at the same price but without lunch included.
  • The COA and Friends Annual Christmas Dinner on Friday, December 10th.  This event is held for Tewksbury Seniors.  Tickets are $15 per person and include a plated dinner and dancing to the music of the Perfect Match Band…and a special guest from the N. Pole.
  • The Red Hat Carnation Belles Christmas Party of Wednesday, December 15th.  Tickets are $25 per person and include a plated dinner and entertainment as well as a gift exchange.
  • The Friends of the Elderly Razzle Dazzle New Year's Eve Party of Friday, December 31.

Tickets are $45 per person and include a plentiful buffet dinner, dancing to the music of Pete Saran and The New Life Band and all the sparkles of a New Years celebration.
