Construction Worker Hit by Drunk Driver Early Friday Morning

The 25-year-old victim is hospitalized and in critical condition. The driver of the car involved has been arrested.

Tewksbury Police arrested a Lawrence man early Friday morning for driving under the influence after hitting a construction worker who was working on an overnight project on Main Street in Tewksbury.

On Friday, August 28, Tewksbury Police officers arrested Domenic Cataldo, 29, of 26 Market Street (Apt #3), Lawrence, Ma for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor Resulting in Serious Injury, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked license.

This arrest occurred after the vehicle Cataldo was operating struck an employee of the Brox Construction Company at approximately 2:30 a.m., while he was working on an overnight road construction project on Rte. 38 (Main Street) in Tewksbury.

The 25-year-old male victim/employee from Kingston, was immediately transported by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital and then airlifted by MedFlight helicopter to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for treatment. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Rte. 38 traffic was shut down for approximately for three hours for investigative purposes.

The State Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded upon request and is assisting the Tewksbury Police Department with the investigation.

Cataldo was due to be arraigned Friday on the charges in Lowell District Court.
