Crash on 495 Seriously Injures Colorado Tourist
Colorado man suffers life-threatening injuries after falling asleep at the wheel and driving into the woods.
UPDATED 4 P.M. State Police, Tewksbury Fire and ambulance crews responded to a section of 495 between exits 38 and 39, where a pickup truck went off the highway and into the woods around 1 p.m.
A Colorado man, identified as Gregory Bowlby, was seriously injured when the pickup truck he was driving went off the southbound side of the highway and into a grove of trees, trapping him inside.
According to Tewksbury fire officials, Bowlby's injuries are life threatening, though specifics were not provided.

Rescue crews requested a helicopter to transport Bowlby from the scene, but none were flying due to poor weather conditions. Instead, he was transported to Leahy Clinic in Burlington by ambulance. His condition is not immediately known.
Bowlby was hauling a small U-Haul trailer was traveling with his wife from Maine to Colorado at the time of the accident, according to State Police. His wife was not injured in the accident.

According to State Police, it appears Bowlby fell asleep at the wheel before going off the road. Because the truck was lodged in the grove of trees at an odd angle, trees had to be removed before Bowlby could be extracted from the vehicle, according to a Tewksbury Fire Department spokesman.
