Friends Halloween Dance, Cribbage Tournament and More From the Council on Aging

Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley SHINE Coordinator, Susan Cripps, will be at the Senior Center this Friday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. to discuss Medicare and supplemental medigap coverages.  The public is welcome to attend this informative presentation.  In order that we may have an idea of how many people will be attending this presentation, it is asked that you call the Center at 978-640-4480 and have your name added to the attendance list.  Thank you. 

The Friends Halloween Dance will be held in the evening this Friday Oct. 25 beginning at 7 p.m. A costume contest will be held at 7:15 p.m.  Music will be provided by the Fred Manzi Band.  Tickets are now available and also available at the door at $10.

A Cribbage Tournament will be held at the Senior Center this  Saturday, Oct. 26.  The registration fee is $20 per person.  One may register prior to the tournament or upon arrival at noon on the day of the tournament.

Then on Sunday, Oct. 27 the Seniors will hold a Breakfast Benefit and Mini Fair at the Senior  Center.  The Breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 11 a.m.; and, the Mini Fair will be open from 7 a.m. to noon.  Table space is available to the public for the Mini Fair.

The Police Department will hold its 15th Annual Community Safe Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MVP, 2087 Main Street.  There will be games, face painting, safety demos, dancing, music and lots, lots more...a great day for all our Tewksbury children and grandchildren.

If you didn't get to visit the Tewksbury 2013 Farmers Market this past Saturday, there will be another chance to do so.  Another Farmers Market will be held this Saturday, Oct. 26, at 286 Livingston Street by the Youth Football Field, Funway Park and the Tennis Courts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reports are that it is a great take.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center for an afternoon dance on Monday, Sept. 28. Those purchasing tickets ($6) by Oct. 23 will have lunch included.

On Oct. 30, the staff from the D'Youville Wellness Center will be at the Tewksbury Senior Center to talk about “Replacement Surgery – Before, During and After”.  This event is open to the public and will take place at 10 a.m..  If planning to attend, please call the Center at 978-640-4480 to put your name on the attendance list.  Likewise, it is asked that one call the Senior Center to have his/her name put on the attendance list for the following Medigap presentations:

  • Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. – Tufts Health Medical Preferred by Gerald Lodge;
  • Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. – Fallon Health Care by Heather Bousquet; 
  • Friday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. – United Health Care
  • Friday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. – BC/BS by Heather Hurd
Tickets are also available for the following Red Hat Carnation Belles activities:
  • Wednesday, Oct. 30 – Red Hat Halloween Party – supper & Amazing Sensations  $15
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 – Buffalo Bingo and refreshments -  $5
  • Thursday, Dec. 12 – HuKeLau for lunch and a Christmas Show - $54
The Drama Club at the Tewksbury High School is putting on its Fall play, “The Crucible”, which is a play based on Arthur Miller's Novel about the Salem Witch Trials.  The play will run from Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3.  Show times are at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evening as well as a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday and Sunday.  Tickets are: $7 for Adults; and, $5 for Students and Senior Citizens.

The Community Teamwork staff of the Senior Corps Volunteer Programs will be at the Tewksbury Senior Center on Monday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. to provide information on how its Volunteer Programs benefit the community and the people volunteering.  They have many programs in the community that help make a difference in the lives of its residents.  This is a great opportunity to learn about their programs especially if you are interested in doing meaningful volunteer work.  This presentation is open to the public.

Also coming up in November is the Town Manager and Department Heads Question and Answer Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 9:30 a.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.  This Q & A Forum will be held at the Senior Center on both days and is open to the Public.  Got a question that you'd like answered?  Well, this is your opportunity.  This format is taking the place of the Annual Town Manager's Neighborhood meetings.  It is hoped that the forums are well attended.   Come on down and ask those questions that have been on your mind. 

The Board of Health will conduct its Annual Flu Vaccine Clinic at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Tewksbury residents 50 years and older. It should be noted that supplies are limited.  Please remember to bring along your insurance cards.  Questions may be directed to the Public Health Nurse, Sarah Kinghorn, at 978-640-4473 on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks will hold its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Tewksbury Senior Citizens on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Elks Lodge on South Street.  Tickets are available for this event at the Senior Center.  This is a free event sponsored by the Elks.

A Country Western Dance will be held at the Senior Center the following day on Friday, Nov. 15.  Music will be provided by the Jimmy Allen Band.  Tickets are $10 which may be purchased now or at the door.  This event should prove to be a foot stomp'n good time. 

Dr. Smith will conduct a Podiatry Clinic at the Senior Center on Saturday, November 16. Registrations are now being accepted.  The fee for the clinic is $15.  This clinic is limited to 35 Tewksbury Senior Citizens.  This clinic is funded in part by the Council on Aging.

Tickets are now available for: the COA & Friends Christmas Dinner of Friday, December 6th; the Blues Brothers Show of Friday, Dec. 13 which is being funded, in part, by the local Arts Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council; and, the Friends New Year's Eve Dinner/Dance of Tuesday, Dec. 31.  Additional information can be obtained at the Senior Center.

The Council on Aging is now assisting Tewksbury Senior Citizen residents with Fuel Assistance applications.  Seniors may call Jan or Linda at 978-640-4482 to arrange an appointment and find out what information one needs to bring with them when applying.  Younger families may call Community Teamwork (CTI) at 978-459-6161 for information on how to apply. Some of the  household income eligibility for fuel assistance are as follows:  1 person $32,065;   2 people $41,932;  3 people $51,798;   4 people $61,664.  Information on larger families and the eligible incomes is posted at the Senior Center and is also available from CTI.
