The Society is planning a first-time-ever Cemetery Tour on Oct. 22 (6 p.m.) and Oct. 24 (3:30 p.m.) at the East Street Cemetery.  This is planned as an evening event so bring your flashlight.  Kim Zunino, the leader of the tour is hoping for good weather so a full moon can shine upon the proceedings.  Learn about the carvings on slate stones and the difference between the oldest part of the cemetery and the new part.  It will be a night to honor the people who came before us, their life stories, and who now lay at rest.

A small fee will be charged for the tour and it is open to members ($6) and non-members ($8).  Children under 12 should come on Sunday.  Reservations may be made by email to: tewksburyhistoricalsociety@MSN.com. Park in the newer East Cemetery.

"Tewksbury Has Talent" - a fundraiser

During November, the Society will be sponsoring the "Tewksbury Has Talent" program that was so popular last year.  A series of preliminary tryouts in November will be followed by the grand show in early December.  It is open to any Tewksbury Resident older than 9 years old.  Last year, musicians, singers, dancers, and a performing martial arts group all participated to show off their talents.  Individuals and groups are invited but only individuals that are residents of Tewksbury may tryout.  If a person is not a resident, they may tryout if they are in a group with a Tewksbury resident.  Adults and senior citizens are encouraged to give it a try.  There is no fee to tryout but if you would like to be an audience judge, you may cast your vote for the winners if you buy a $1.00 judging form.  More details will be forthcoming in early November.

A small fee will be charged for the show and it is open to the public with Premium Seats $7 and General Seating $5).  More details and dates will be forthcoming in November.  Reservations may be made by email to: tewksburyhistoricalsociety@MSN.com.

"Scot's Heather Follies (1861)"  - a fundraiser

January/February/March

T.B.A.L.

We have teamed with the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Tewksbury Cultural Council so historical theatrical events can be held.  Last year we sponsored two professional actresses to perform.  This year we will two fundraisers, one in June and a local history story, the "Scot's Heather Follies (1861)" after the first of the year.  The Scot's Heather play will be looking for 18 local actors and actresses to fill out the play's cast of characters.  The story is filled with love and romance, anger and joy, and reflects the people of Tewksbury who lived in this neighborhood of farms.    The Scot's Heather plant won an award as a new native plant and the only place it grew was in a meadow off of the dusty cart path called Livingston Street.  The story concluded as a nation-wide caricature in New York's Vanity Fair Magazine (1862).

A small ticket fee will be charged for the play and it is open to members and the public.  More details will be forthcoming in January 2011.  Reservations may be made by email to: tewksburyhistoricalsociety@MSN.com.
