TEWKSBURY: VOTE WITH YOUR FEET
- By Peggy Schleicher
The time is now. It is crunch-time. The Tewksbury Lithium-ion Project is now at the Massachusetts State level. Therefore, your attendance is critical at the State Siting Board Public Hearing on Thursday Oct. 9, 2025 at the Tewksbury Memorial High School at 6:30 pm. This is where and how we VOTE WITH OUR FEET. We walk into that auditorium in large numbers. Numbers matter. Large numbers will show the State and the town that Tewksbury citizens care and stand up for the safety of our people. This is the time to take a stand and we do it with our feet by showing up on the 9th.
There are many potential dangers associated with Lithium-ion sites. Thermal-runaway fire is one danger. This fire is intensely alarming because of how fast it spreads and the poisonous vapors it emits. Water and foam do not put it out. Lithium battery fires release a cocktail of dangerous and toxic fumes that can cause respiratory problems, skin and eye irritation, and even poisoning, making it crucial to avoid inhaling them. Lithium-ion exposure also threatens conservation land and ground water. In a crisis, the possibility of resident, business and school evacuation pose many safety concerns and challenges. Constant noise pollution is a concern. Lots of folks have asked: When is the vote?” The hearing on Thursday, October 9th at the High School at 6:30 pm is your chance to vote.” But, the only way to vote is with your feet. Your attendance is your vote. Be there. Vote with your feet.
