Lowell Police Looking for Carjacking Suspect

A suspect has been identified and is wanted for Carjacking and Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.

TEWKSBURY, MA - Lowell Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a carjacking incident over the weekend.

Police say a Lowell man, believed to be homeless, is wanted in connection with a carjacking incident that occurred Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of Auto Zone 177 Church St. in Lowell.

Approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday, police say a 23-year-old woman parked at the Auto Zone store and went inside leaving her keys inside her vehicle. When she came out a man was inside the car preparing to drive off. The victim attempted to stop the man from driving away at which point the suspect opened the driver’s door and knocked her to the pavement. The suspect then drove off with her vehicle. A witness to the incident put the victim in his car and followed the now stolen vehicle up Andover Street and onto several side streets before losing sight of it as it traveled outbound on Andover Street. The victim was treated at the scene for minor scraped to her knees.

Police say based on information received on the Crime Stoppers tip line and follow-up investigative work by detectives, a suspect has been identified and is wanted for Carjacking and Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.

He is Maxwell Giattino age 41. Giattino may still be operating the stolen 1996 Honda Accord, color Green bearing MA plate 922WJ2. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Lowell Police Department.
