Man Steals Pickup Truck, Crashes Into Multiple Vehicles, Tewksbury Police Say

Police said a man stole a pickup truck then led them on a wild chase that included hitting a traffic light and backing up into a police car.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A man is accused of stealing a truck at a gas station, then fleeing from police before crashing into multiple other vehicles, police said.

Police received a report that a Ford F250 had been stolen from the Petroil gas station on Main Street in Tewksbury at 1:23 p.m. on Sunday.

Police saw the truck approaching Shawsheen Street and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver kept on going and hit a Honda Civic before fleeing.

The truck also struck a Kia Sorento, police said.

Police saw the truck on Shawsheen Street again and decided to stop the pursuit due to the driver's dangerous actions.

The driver then went toward Route 495 southbound where it hit a traffic light and backed up into a police cruiser before getting on the highway.

State police were notified and were able to safely stop the truck.

Daniel Riedl, 41, of Worcester, was arrested. He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, four counts of leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, marked lanes violation, and speeding.

He was scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
