Massive East Street Pothole Claims at Least Five Tires

Another side effect of the heavy amounts of snow the region has received over the last several weeks is an increase in potholes.

received multiple calls over the weekend regarding a particularly treacherous pothole on East Street that resulted in at least five flat tires. One such call took place Sunday just before 7 p.m.

The female called reported a very large pothole just past the railroad tracks on East Street, heading toward Dascomb Road. The pothole had caused a flat tire. Dispatch called a towing company and was informed that the companyhad received multiple calls regarding flat tires from that pothole also.

Police called the , which said it would address the issue as soon as possible.

Later in the evening, another driver reported getting a flat tire from the same pothole. At that point, officers placed an orange cone at the pothole until the DPW could fill it in.

Happy ending to lost dog tale

Sometimes if you can't find your owner, any human willing to pet you will do.

Police received a call Sunday at around 7:15 a.m. from the manager of the Hess Station and convenience store at 1910 Andover St. The manager reported that a greyhound, off its leash and with no owner nearby, was hanging around outside the store.

According to the manager, the dog wasn't aggressive. However, it was jumping up on customers as they entered the store.

According to the manager, a call was made and a message left for the owner of the dog, whose phone dumber were on its collar. Calls were also placed to nearby hotels to see if anyone staying there had lose the speedy pup. There was no success in locating the owner.

Health agent Lou-Ann Clement was notified and she arrived on the scene to take custody of the dog. According to Clement, the dog's owner, an Andover resident, was reached and he was able to reclaim his dog.

Alert officer nabs two for drug possession

An officer on routine patrol caught a glimpse of a suspicious vehicle parked near Friday night, leading to two drug arrests. The officer approached the vehicle and, after a brief investigation, arrested Jason M. Dillon and Diana DiMartino. Dillon, 33, of 3 Leonard Ave. in Hudson, NH, and DiMartino, 28, of 42 Pasture Lane in Bedford, NH, were both charged with possession of a Class A substance.

Warrant arrest

A routine speeding stop on Whipple Road, Friday night, led to a warrant arrest. Anthony C. Mastropietro, 36, of 6 5th St. in Lowell, was arrested on two outstanding warrants.
