New Outbreak At Tewksbury State Hospital: 29 Staff, Patient Cases

At least one patient has died with the virus in the last week, as of Tuesday, according to state data.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury State Hospital is reporting a new outbreak, albeit much smaller than the one in the spring, according to state data.

Twenty staff members and nine patients had active cases of the virus, as of Tuesday. At least one patient had died with the virus in the last week.

In the spring, over 100 patients and staff at the state hospital. A U.S. Army Reserve medical force was sent to the hospital in response to the outbreak. As of Friday, there had been 16 coronavirus deaths at the hospital, according to the town.

The 29 current cases are only a small fraction of the 959 staff members and 287 residents.

Patch has requested comment from the Department of Public Health on the outbreak and will update this story when it is available.
