Pets Plus Expands Its Operation In a Big Way

Pet and pet supply store takes over neighboring space and more than doubles its square footage.

For some business owners, expansion and change can be scary propositions. They like to take baby steps and grow in small increments.

Not Matt Connors.

The owner of Pets Plus in South Tewksbury has been aching to grow his business for years. Earlier this year, an opportunity presented itself and leapt at it. As a result, Pets Plus has more than doubled its square footage and, as a result, has been able to greatly increase the products and services it offers its customers.

"We've been in this space (2286 Main St.) since 1997," said Connors. "But we were really cramped and we've been looking to expand for a while. We had hoped to expand when Superstar Video went out but that would have meant H&R Block would have had to (relocate) and it didn't work out."

A perfect opportunity opened up earlier this year when the wireless communication store that had been next door closed up shop. Connors jumped at the chance to expand into the spacious end unit.

The renovation work began in July and the new section opened up in early September. An official Grand Opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27.

"We're very excited about (the expansion)," said Connors. "We're able to offer more items, more services and our customers have a lot more room."

Pets Plus sells small animals such as fish, reptiles, birds and hamsters. They also have a wide variety of pet supplies, as well as high-end, nutritious pet foods and snacks. These are pet foods you would not be finding in a typical grocery store.

"We specialize in nutrition. That's what I do," said Connors. And all out foods have a 3-day money back guarantee."

Pets Plus is open seven days a week -- M-F, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sat, 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
