School Committee Notebook: Russell, Students Honored

School Committee honors outgoing member Joseph Russell.

The Tewksbury School Committee honored one of its own at its March 27.

Committee member Joseph Russell, who opted not to seek re-election this spring, was honored by the committee for his years of service to Tewksbury Public School.

Superintendent John O'Connor and committee member Jamey Cutelis each spoke of Russell's contributions, with both highlighting his involvement with the construction of the new Tewksbury High School.

Russell was given a gift bag containing a Tewksbury High Redmen hat, shirt and sweatshirt.

"I guess they know my favorite team," he said with a laugh.

On hand for the presentation were several members of Russell's family, including his wife and some of their children.

The School Committee made three other presentations at its March 27 meeting:

  • The Tewksbury/Methuen Red Rangers girls hockey team was honored for reaching the Division 2 State semifinals in its first season as a team.
  • Matthew McLaughlin was honored for winning the Wynn School Geography Bee and advancing in the State Competition.
  • Mikayla Marello was honored for representing the Wynn Middle School at Gov. Patrick's Project 351-A Day of Service, Leadership and Community Building.
