TEWKSBURY, MA — Officials are accepting applications for a school committee seat that was left vacant when Dennis G. Francis abruptly resigned last month. The school committee and board of selectmen will jointly review applications submitted before the Aug. 30 deadline and appoint a successor to fill out the remainder of Francis's term, which expires on April 4, 2020.

Francis did not attend the July 24 meeting where his resignation was announced, and has declined comment in the weeks that followed. At the time of his resignation, Francis was chairman of the board. The board voted to replace him as chairman with Keith M. Sullivan.

The school committee and selectmen will meet Sept. 9 and 12 to interview candidates and select a replacement. The town posted information for interested applicants on its Website.
