Tewksbury Boy Scouts Honor Leader Killed In Motorcycle Crash
David Penney, 58, was a beloved Boy Scout leader who "put his heart and soul" into his work.
TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury Boy Scouts gathered Monday night for a candlelight vigil to honor their troop leader David Penney, who died over the weekend in a motorcycle accident.
A lifetime resident of Massachusetts, Penney was a beloved member of the Tewksbury community, where he served as a leader of Boy Scout Troop 49 and president of both the Tewksbury-Wilmington Sons of Italy and the Elks Post 2070, according to a Facebook post. Published Tuesday morning, the post already has nearly 60 comments and counting.
"His commitment to Scouting and his gift of service leaves a powerful legacy within our community," one Facebook commenter said.

Penney was killed Saturday afternoon after being hit by a BMW while riding his motorcycle. The driver of the car has been charged with driving under the influence, a New Hampshire State Police report said.
He leaves behind his wife, Celeste, and son, David Penney Jr.

A memorial service for Penney will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at the First Baptist Church in Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, his family is asking for donations to the Key Foundation.
