Tewksbury To Form Superintendent Search Screening Committee

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury School Committee is seeking applicants to serve on the advisory Preliminary Screening Committee as part of the search for a new superintendent.

The new superintendent, replacing Christopher Malone, will join the district on July 1, the School Committee said Monday.

The screening committee will review applications, interview semi-finalists and recommend finalists to the School Committee. It will be composed of:

  • 4 Parents, including one parent of a Special Education student
  • 3 Teachers
  • 1 Central Office Administrator
  • 1 Building Principal
  • 1 Community Member
  • 1 Student
  • 1 School Committee Member

"This important task will require Screening Committee members to commit to the following meeting schedule," the committee said. "It is extremely important that members are able to commit to all dates and be present for all semi-finalist interviews. Only those present at all interviews will be able to take part in the selection of finalists to send to the School Committee."

  • "Wednesday, March 23rd at 6 p.m. – Meeting with Search Consultant from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC), receive charge from the School Committee, arrange to receive candidate materials and begin to formulate interview questions.
  • Wednesday, March 30th at 6 p.m. – Select semi-finalists
  • Monday, April 4th at 6 p.m. – Semi-finalist interviews
  • Tuesday, April 5th at 6 p.m. - Semi-finalist interviews
  • Wednesday, April 6th at 6 p.m. - Semi-finalist interviews
  • Thursday, April 7th at 6 p.m. - Semi-finalist interviews and selection of finalists"

Anyone interested in serving on the committee as a community representative should submit a letter of interest to the School Committee by Friday, March 11 at 5 p.m.

"In your letter, please identify the group that you wish to represent and outline your qualifications for the Committee," the committee said. "Applicants should have the ability to work as part of a team and have a strong interest in the Tewksbury Public Schools. Committee members must commit to keep the proceedings completely confidential."

The committee members will be named at a March 16 special School Committee meeting.
