Tewksbury Freemasons Blood Drive Seeks More Donors

Tewksbury’s Wamesit Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons partners with the American Red Cross to sponsor a blood drive each month. “We have seven dates coming up in May and June before closing the Lodge for renovations in July and August,” says Steve Lavargna, a Masonic brother at the Lodge. “We’ll then resume our schedule with another eight dates in September, October, and November. We know people are busy, so hopefully we’ve planned plenty of dates to allow donors the flexibility they need to stop in and make a donation.”

Blood donations help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. To support this critical need, the Masons aim to collect over 1,500 units of blood in 2025, which can help save 4,500 lives. “It’s great to give back in such an easy, yet impactful way,” says Brother Lavargna. “Since you can donate whole blood every 56 days, we have a lot of repeat donors visiting Wamesit, which is fantastic. We love our repeat donors. Of course, it’s all that more rewarding we see them bring in a friend or family member for the first time. The more donors the better!”

The upcoming blood drive schedule at Wamesit Masonic Hall on 70 Victor Drive, Tewksbury, MA 01876, is as follows. The blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour, although the donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes of that time on average.
