Enjoy a concert from one of New England's top Jimmy Buffett tribute bands, The Island Castaways Band. Originally formed in 2008 as Jimmy Buffett tribute, The Island Castaways Band have evolved into one of New England’s most popular Trop Rock bands. (What is Trop-Rock? Any song that can bring you to your own private island and just sit back with a cold one and relax!) Their live show features a balanced mix of originals and classics, all with their own tropical touch of fun – bringing summer to you, regardless of where you are or the time of year. The band promises a heavy dose of Jimmy Buffett for its Tewksbury concert. No registration required. This concert will take place on the library's back lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be rescheduled. To supplement the cost of next year's concerts, the Friends of the Library will be selling raffle tickets and accepting donations at a table near the stage.

Join us on the first Monday monthly to discuss either a science themed book or a science fiction book. This month we will read and discuss FUZZ by Mary Roach. Books are available at the front desk one month prior to the discussion.
IN PERSON: MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center
Wednesday, August 6, 10am-2pm
The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is visiting Tewksbury! Every Wednesday from August 6-October 29, the Mobile Career Center will be parked outside the library from 10AM-2PM to help job seekers. The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is a mobile bus unit that has been equipped with solar panels to power workstations within the bus to allow for Career Center services to hit the road to all of our local communities, cities and towns. It will provide information on: Career Services; Current Training Programs; Job Search Events; and Hiring Events. No registration is required. In the event of severe weather, the event may be cancelled or cut short.
IN PERSON: MORNING MOVIE -- The Ballad of Wallis Island (*RR)

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood's newest DVD releases -- The Ballad of Wallis Island. An eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island tries to make his fantasies come true by getting his favorite musicians to perform at his home. Comedy/Drama. Rated PG-13. 1 Hour, 39 Minutes. Doors will open at 10am. Film will start at 10:30am. Candy & water will be served. A $1 donation is suggested.

Do you love a good mystery? Join the library's Book Club, "The Armchair Detectives!" The body of a senior official has been found in a sewer, and a note left in his mouth warns the British to quit India, or else. Wyndham and his two new colleagues--arrogant Inspector Digby and Sergeant Banerjee, embark on an investigation that will take them from the opulent mansions of wealthy British traders to the seedy opium dens of the city.

Chris Connolly, RN, BSN, owner of "Living My Dream Yoga," will lead a 4-week series of meditation classes. Classes will take place from 3:30pm to 4:30pm over four consecutive Thursdays -- August 7, 14, 21 and 28 -- in the library's Meeting Room. Classes are designed for both those who are new to meditation and regular practitioners.

The Tewksbury Community Market takes place on Thursdays, from 4pm to 7pm, from June 5, 2025 from September 25, 2025, in the parking lot behind the Tewksbury Recreation Center at Livingston St. Park (288 Livingston Street). The market has 70 vendors overall, with 30-35 vendors present on any given week. Each week's lineup of vendors is listed on the Market's website at www.tewksburymarket.com.

VIRTUAL: Memorable Songs -- Originals vs. Covers (*RR)

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” is an old proverb that is probably never truer than in the field of popular music. Songs such as Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender,” Bobby Darin’s “Dream Lover,” and Buddy Holly’s “It’s So Easy” all have been recorded dozens of times by a variety of artists after the release of the original version. In this presentation, viewers will be able to contrast prominent covers of songs from the Great American Songbook with the original versions and examine how changes in tempo and arrangement may, in some cases, have even made it better. Led by Rich Knox, a retired school teacher and administrator, who lectures on musicals, films, and opera to libraries across the country.

VIRTUAL: Take A Walk In Paris (Live Tour) (*RR)

French tour guide Patrick Herpe returns to give viewers a live tour of Paris. He'll be walking while ZOOMing with us to show live video of The Marais, a historic district in Paris. Having once been an aristocratic district, it is home to many buildings of historic and architectural importance. Modern-day Marais is best known for its art galleries, museums, fashion houses, and upscale restaurants. Patrick will discuss the history of each Paris landmark he spotlights, and offer tips on traveling to Paris.

Their first book, Generation Queer, is a nonfiction YA highlighting the stories of LGBTQIA+ youth activists. As founder of Lavender Education, a national program promoting LGBTQIA+ history and youth leadership, Kimm leads impactful workshops, professional development, and historic walking tours. Kimm lectures at Harvard Graduate School of Education, specializing in gender, sexuality, and equity.
VIRTUAL: Discovering The Grave Of King Richard III: Solving History's Greatest Cold Case (*RR)

Historian and award-winning producer Philippa Langley, author of The Princes in the Tower: Solving History's Greatest Cold Case, will discuss her discovery of the grave of King Richard III. In 2012, Langely led the search for Richard III in a car park in Leicester, England. The king was uncovered in the northern end of the car park, right where Langley's research, and an intuition, said it would be. Langely will discuss her research methods, her team, her findings, and how solving this mystery affects our understanding of the royal monarchy in the 1500s.

Join this conversation moderated by Michele Bograd, Ph.D., a certified end-of-life doula and psychologist, to explore your thoughts and feelings about such questions as: What are you grieving? How have you felt accompanied or isolated in your grief? What messages have you gotten about the “right” way to grieve? What do we learn socially and culturally that influences how we support and care for others as they grieve?

This showing is for all ages and is sensory inclusive. This means that quiet is not expected or anticipated. Feel free to move around, bring your iPad/devices, wear noise cancelling headphones, and more. We will have fidgets available in the back of the room. Please be ready to participate and play. Don't worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along!
IN PERSON: Minecraft Bobbleheads (*RR)
Tuesday, August 5, 6pm
Calling all young crafters and Minecraft fans! Sculpt your very own Minecraft-inspired bobblehead characters using air-dry clay. Create a separate head and body so your character’s head can swivel! Finish off your piece with acrylic paint before taking it home. This event is open to children in grades 3-5.

OUTDOORS: Teddy Bear Picnic

Bring your favorite stuffed friend and join us for a Teddy Bear Picnic at the library! Kids and their cuddly companions are invited to enjoy stories, songs, snacks, and simple crafts - all centered around teddy bears and the magic of imagination. This event is planned for the library’s back lawn but may be moved indoors in case of bad weather. Please bring your own stuffed animals, picnic blankets, and snacks - and don’t forget the sunscreen! This event is open to children ages 2-5. Registration is not required.
