Tewksbury Man Arrested After Allegedly Brandishing Large Knife

Tewksbury police charged the man with assault with a dangerous weapon and threat to commit murder.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Police arrested a Tewksbury man who allegedly had brandished a large knife Tuesday, Tewksbury police said.

Christopher Canty, 49 of Tewksbury, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife), disorderly conduct, and threat to commit murder.

Police were sent to the 700 block of Shawsheen Street a report of a man possibly brandishing a large knife. When they arrived, they learned the knife had been discarded, police said, but after further investigation, the knife was found.

"During the investigation, Canty displayed erratic and highly agitated behavior," police said. "Officers were able to safely take him into custody and he was placed under arrest."

Canty was scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court Wednesday.

All people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
