WOBURN, MA — A 66-year-old Tewksbury man was sentenced to prison after he pleaded guilty to slipping a medication into a woman's drink and raping her while she was incapacitated. Richard Leone was sentenced Tuesday to two-to-three years in state prison followed by three years probation after pleading guilty to rape and drugging a person for sexual intercourse in Middlesex Superior Court.
Prosecutors allege that on Jan. 5, 2016 in Tewksbury, Leone placed an unspecified medication into the victim's drink to engage in sexual activity while the victim was unable to consent.
A charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14 was dropped by prosecutors. As part of his probation, Leone must have no contact with the victim, undergo mental-health and substance-abuse evaluations and treatment.
