Tewksbury Police Arrest 3, Charge 4 With Car Break-Ins

The town had multiple nights of car break-ins over the last month, the police said.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury police arrested three people early Tuesday morning and charged them with breaking into a car. Another person was charged with the same crime but was not arrested, the police said.

At 2:53 a.m. Tuesday, the police responded to a report of people breaking into cars on Ames Hill Drive, the police said. They quickly located Sergio Mendez, 18 of Lawrence, but three other people took off running, the police said.

Police dogs were able to track down two of the people who fled. Both were arrested. The fourth was found by Andover police.

All four were charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle (night-time), possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting arrest and conspiracy.

Other than Mendez, the people arrested were juveniles and were not identified by police.

The police listed multiple recent car break-ins and stolen vehicles but did not say the four arrested were responsible.

On Aug. 5, there were multiple car break-ins on Navillus Road and Kennedy Road. One vehicle was stolen and recovered in Lawrence. There were multiple break-ins on Aug. 16 at the Ames Hill Road, including one vehicle that was stolen and recovered in Connecticut. Finally, there were multiple break-ins at the Donny Martel Way apartment complex on Aug. 21.

The police asked residents to lock their vehicles and not leave keys in them.

Mendez was scheduled to be arraigned at Lowell District Court Tuesday. Two of the three juveniles were due to be arraigned at Lowell Juvenile Court Tuesday.

All people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
