Tewksbury Police Arrest Lowell Man After Alleged Theft At Home Depot
Gideon White was charged with larceny and being a fugitive from justice. Police said White had at least 27 pre-existing arrest warrants.
TEWKSBURY, MA — A Lowell man was arrested Wednesday in Tewksbury and is accused of stealing tools from a Home Depot store and having over two dozen pre-existing arrest warrants, the Tewksbury Police Department said.
Gideon White, 23, was charged with larceny over $1,200 and being a fugitive from justice, authorities said. White, according to court records, was arraigned Thursday in Lowell District Court and he was ordered held without bail pending a court appearance next week.
According to police reports, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Tewksbury police were called to the Home Depot, at 85 Main St., for a report of a shoplifter. Witnesses said the shoplifter fled the store and got into a red Acura, leaving the parking lot and driving onto Main Street.

The Tewksbury PD said its responding officer actually spotted the red Acura leaving the parking lot, and the officer followed the vehicle to Pike Street.
There, the suspect, later identified as White, fled the vehicle on foot, according to police. But the department said that White quickly was taken into custody by a Tewksbury PD officer.

Tewksbury police said that during a subsequent investigation, they discovered over $1,200 in tools in the red Acura, which allegedly had been stolen from the Home Depot.
Surveillance footage from the Home Depot was used to identify White as the suspect who allegedly stole the materials, police said.
"It’s extremely important that we hold accountable people who think they can steal without consequences," Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus said. "This was great work by our officers to track this defendant."
The Tewksbury PD said that White is "well known" to the department and that the suspect also was a fugitive from justice due to a warrant for his arrest in New Hampshire and 26 default warrants in Massachusetts.
