Tewksbury Police Investigating Robbery In Main St Parking Lot

A woman ripped a gold chain off a man's neck in the Walmart parking lot Friday, police said.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury police are investigating a reported robbery Friday in the parking lot of a Main Street shopping plaza, Chief Ryan Columbus said Tuesday.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, police responded to a reported robbery in the parking lot outside of the Walmart on Main Street, police said. They spoke to a man who said he was approached in the parking lot by a man and a woman, who began speaking to him.

"The woman then handed the victim a small amount of cash and some jewelry that she said was a gift," police said. "Immediately afterward, the woman grabbed a gold chain and pendant the victim was wearing and ripped it off his neck before fleeing on foot."

The man and woman then fled in "what appeared to be a blue, 4-door, hatchback Mazda, possibly a Mazda CX-5," police said. "The stolen gold chain and pendant are 24 karat gold, and estimated to be worth a significant amount."

Police are investigating if the incident is connected to similar recent robberies reported in Middleton, Walpole, Attleboro and Westbrook, Maine.
