Enjoy the screening of a new documentary just in time for "Banned Books Week" -- The Librarians. With Sarah Jessica Parker serving as Executive Producer, The Librarians explores the urgent moment we find ourselves in. As an unprecedented wave of book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy, flanked by concerned community members and young readers. The Librarians is a chilling cautionary tale and rallying cry for freedom – told through the personal experiences of librarians under siege and the everyday patriots who join their ranks in defense of the books. 1 Hour, 32 Minutes. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Film will start at 7pm. Pizza & water will be served.

The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is visiting Tewksbury! Every Wednesday from August 6-October 29, the Mobile Career Center will be parked outside the library from 10AM-2PM to help job seekers. The MassHire Lowell Mobile Career Center is a mobile bus unit that has been equipped with solar panels to power workstations within the bus to allow for Career Center services to hit the road to all of our local communities, cities and towns. It will provide information on: Career Services; Current Training Programs; Job Search Events; and Hiring Events.

The Tewksbury Community Market takes place on Thursdays, from 4pm to 7pm, from June 5, 2025 from October 9, 2025, in the parking lot behind the Tewksbury Recreation Center at Livingston St. Park (288 Livingston Street). The market has 70 vendors overall, with 30-35 vendors present on any given week. Each week's lineup of vendors is listed on the Market's website at www.tewksburymarket.com.

Enjoy Halloween season with delightfully spooky poems and stories by two American masters, Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe. This recital features gruesome poems and a sinister short story in a pounding cadence by Poe, and quietly haunting, eerie and elusive works by Dickinson. Useful explanations help you understand, appreciate and enjoy each of the time-honored works. Creepy props enhance the Halloween atmosphere. The recital is presented by Jeffrey Zygmont, poet, author, and publisher.

VIRTUAL: A Look At Banned & Controversial Theatre Productions (*RR)

Explore several controversial works of theatre that were banned, including Sholem Asch’s turn of the 20th Century play God of Vengeance, Lillian Hellman’s The Children's Hour, and Mae West’s plays Sex and The Drag, as well as Moises Kaufman’s The Laramie Project. Examine the importance of theatre in creating opportunities for conversations on controversial topics. Led by Stephen Nachamie, an award-winning stage and film director who has worked on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally and internationally. This program is part of the Library's recognition of Banned Books Week.

But why have the tales of the undead endured? And what makes them so appealing in the modern day? Explore the ongoing allure of these powerful creatures. Led by Dr. Bill Thierfelder, a retired college professor who taught a variety of Arts and Humanities courses for more than three decades at several New York universities and colleges.

“America’s favorite illustrator” is best known for his relatable scenes of modern American life with subjects selected for their broad appeal: families, holiday celebrations and young love. Rockwell was also fond of making paintings about painting and the art world in general, topics one wouldn’t necessarily associate with commercial art for the middle class. This program considers the various ways Rockwell explored art making and museums over the course of his career, with a healthy dose of the artist’s good humor. Led by art historian Jane Oneail, owner of Culturally Curious.

Join us for our annual Welcome night for teens, where we introduce teens to our library and teen services. We will host a craft, have pizza (while supplies last) and OneUp Games will have a variety of next-gen consoles and gaming monitors. Get to know the teen staff, play games, and make new friends. Drop in any time between 5-8 PM.

IN PERSON: Homeschool Hangout

Thursday, October 9, 10am

Are you homeschooled and between the ages of 11-18? Drop in any time between 10 AM - 12 PM to hang out with other homeschool teens. We will have board games out, video games available to play, and snacks to enjoy. Feel free to bring your own (teen appropriate) board games. If you have any allergies, please let Emily know at eleggat@tewksburypl.org by Monday, September 8. After the 8th, we may have purchased snacks and cannot guarantee an allergy will not be present.

Join us for stories, songs, movement, instruments, dancing and more. Get your early literacy skills on! All of our story times are interactive for children and their caregivers. Please be ready to participate and play. Don't worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along! Story Times run in sessions. You can drop in one week, every week or however works best for your schedule. No registration is required. Toddler Story Time will run every Monday from September 8 - December 15.

IN PERSON: Barks & Books with Benny (*RR)

Tuesday, October 7, 4:30pm-5:30pm

Children (especially those struggling with reading) are invited to sign up for a one-on-one session with our service dog Benny on Tuesday afternoons. Barks and Books are open to children reading independently. Each session lasts for 15 minutes in private - just you, Benny, and his human Mom, Melanie. Bring your own book or borrow one of ours to read. This is a great way to build literacy confidence and fluency with a non-judgmental canine reading partner!

Join us for a fun session of stories, songs, fingerplays, and gentle movement that help build early literacy skills. Babies experience the sounds and structure of language through rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Baby Story Time is designed for young children ages 0 to 2 years old and their caregivers. All of our story times are interactive for children and their caregivers. Please be ready to participate and play. Don't worry, we will have a printout with all of the songs and rhymes we are using so you can follow along! Story Times run in sessions. You can drop in one week, every week or however works best for your schedule. No registration is required. This session is Wednesdays from September 10 - December 17 (excluding closings and other exceptions).

Preschool playgroup is a weekly group where kids can meet, play, and learn. Pick up STEM and literacy skills, and have some fun while you're at it! Sponsored by Community Teamwork Inc's Family Resource Network. The Family Resource Network is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE) from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

IN PERSON: Fall Sand Art Painting (*RR)

Thursday, October 9, 3:30pm

We'll make fun Fall leaf art using school glue and colored sand. Use our template, or freestyle your own design! Dress to get messy! We'll have some aprons available. This event is open to children in grades 3-5. Registration is required.
