Tewksbury Writing Group ON ZOOM (*RR)
Tuesday, April 20, 7pm
Are you a writer -- or an aspiring writer -- looking for some support? The new Tewksbury Writing Group, which generally meets the third Tuesday evening of every month, is open to everyone who's interested in writing -- all genres, all skill levels. Each meeting -- which will take place via Zoom -- consists of some conversation, followed by a guest speaker (typically a published author) offering some tips of the trade, followed by a period of reading & friendly critiquing via breakout sessions. (In the breakout sessions, authors of like genres will be grouped together.) This month's guest speaker is Eddie Vincent. Eddie Vincent, co-owner of Encircle Publications LLC, has been in the publishing for over thirty years. He started out in a family newspaper business, and then became an art director for a small publishing house. When that publishing house was sold to Thorndike Press of Waterville, Maine, the Vincents packed their bags and made the move north. After a few years of working for Thorndike Press as their art director, Eddie joined his wife Cynthia and built a flourishing poetry publishing house. Their current company -- Encircle Publications -- specializes in trade fiction publishing with a focus on the mystery and historical fiction genres. Eddie serves on the board of Independent Publishers of New England (IPNE). Come learn what you need to know as an aspiring or first-time author from the perspective of a successful publisher.

Laughter Circle ON FACEBOOK
Wednesday, April 21, noon
This program combines voluntary laughter exercises with gentle breathing techniques to teach the body how to laugh without relying on jokes or humor. This is a participatory program where we will create moments to laugh in through guided actions. No need to bring a yoga mat--most of the program is seated, with options for standing or gentle movement. What are the benefits of laughter? Mood elevates. Stress, depression and tension decrease. Immunity improves. Lung capacity increases through deep breathing, enhancing oxygen delivery to all parts of the body. Endorphin and serotonin levels rise. Laughter provides an excellent internal massage to digestive tract as well as improving blood supply to the internal organs. People who laugh don’t worry as much as people who don’t laugh.
