Tewksbury Reports 144 Confirmed Cases, 15 At Schools In Last Week

The town was designated moderate-risk by the state with positive test rates and case counts on the rise.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury reported over 150 confirmed and probable coronavirus cases Thursday and the town was again designated moderate-risk by the state. The school district reported 15 coronavirus cases to families in the last two weeks.

The district reported three cases on Nov. 12, five on Nov. 13 and seven on Nov. 16. Seven of those cases were at the high school, but they were unrelated, according to the district letter.

The town's 3.5 percent positivity rate, while up from last week's 1.8, remained below the 5 percent bar for the town to be designated high-risk.

The town added 141 new cases over the past two weeks, according to the state data. The town reported 137 active confirmed community cases, six confirmed Tewksbury State Hospital cases, one confirmed case in an unknown category and 11 active probable community cases.

Across the state, 62 communities were labeled high-risk Thursday, more than double the number last week. Statewide, there were 29.7 average daily cases per 100,000 residents, up from 20.7 last week, and the positive test rate rose above 3 percent for the first time since June.

Tewksbury has had over 900 coronavirus cases since the virus arrived in Massachusetts in March, according to the state data.
