Tewksbury Runs Well at Clipper Relays

Golf team takes it on the chin against Lowell

The Tewksbury High girls cross country team turned in a strong showing to place second out of 139 teams at the Clipper Relays held on Saturday in Newburyport.

Junior Christina Dick, junior Laura Patriarca and senior Ashley Toland combined to finish in a time of 36 minutes, 12 seconds. Their time was just two seconds off the winning time turned in by the team from Weston.

But the Redwomen brought more than just their top three runners to the competiton. The THS team of sophomore Sam McGoldrick, sophomore Sarah Parker and senior Jenn Berian put forth a strong showing, good enough for 51st place.

The Tewksbury boys had a good day on the coast, also.

Brian Amaral teamed with senior Nick Parsons and junior Kip Horahan to turn in a time of 32:40, good for 16th place.

Tewksbury also placed 40th with the team of Craig Pino, Sean Foley and Brian Gugger.

Tewksbury 5

Tewksbury found the going rough in a 15-5 loss to Lowell in a MVC match at Trull Brook.

Lowell's Chris Gentle fired a 36 to take medalist honors. Highlights were few and far between for the Redmen, but Tyler Slavin (2-and-1) and Mike Case (1-up) did win their individual matches.

Shawsheen Tech 157

Nashoba Tech 178

Shawsheen Tech improved to 4-0 on the young season, an unbeaten in two seasons of CAL play, with a 157-178 win over Nashoba Tech. Stephen Murphy and Chris Deacetis both juniors, shared medalist honors with matching 37s.

Shane Soloski fired a 41 and Robert Cameron carded a 42 for the Rams.

Whittier Tech 1

Shawsheen trailed 1-0 at halftime but hunior halfback Nicco Riparo took care of that with a second half goal to help the Rams salvage a tie at home. Riparo's goal came off a direct kick from junior fullback Alex Terk. One of the highlights of the game for the Rams was the play of freshman keeper  Andy Sutton. Making his first varsity start, Sutton turned asaide nine shots in the tie.

Fullbacks Brian Gallagher, JJ Barriss and fullback Sean Plunkett played strong games for Shawsheen.

North Shore 0

Shawsheen improved to 2-0 on the young season with a win over North Shore. Sophomore forward Kristen Carroll, junior Erin Plunkett and Marissa Irwin had the goals for Shawsheen. Irwin added an assist. Junior midfielder Kim Barriss played a strong defensive game for the winners. Keeper Jen Curtis turned aside six shots for the shutout.
