Tewksbury Softball Faces Newburyport in Opening Playoff Tilt

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its softball playoff pairings on Tuesday, as perennial contender Tewksbury learned its postseason assignment.

Tewksbury opens up play in North Division 2 on Friday as the Lady Redmen host Newburyport in the first round.

The locals earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament following a regular season record of 14-6. Newburyport enters the contest as the No. 11 seed after an 11-9 campaign.

If Tewksbury is able to get past Newburyport, they will advance to the quarterfinal round versus either No. 3 Arlington or No. 14 Bedford. That game is scheduled for Sunday.

No first pitch time was announced for the Redmen's first round contest as of late Tuesday afternoon.

Burlington, the team that edged Tewksbury last year in the sectional final, earned the No. 1 seed in North Division 2 this year.
