Tewksbury Storage Facility Proposal Heads To Planning Board

A self-storage facility is in the works for an East Street site. The applicant has filed a special permit application with the town.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A developer plans to demolish existing buildings at a site and construct a storage facility, according to documents filed with the town. The 1.1-acre site is located at 913 East St.

The proposal from Civil Design Consultants, Inc., an Andover-based firm, consists of razing the existing commercial structures and constructing a three-story, 11,130-square-foot climate-controlled, self-storage facility.

The proposal includes provisions for access, parking, landscaping, drainage, and utilities.

The special permit application is in regards to altering the minimum setback for parking from the property line from 10 feet to 9 feet.

The special permit application also requests a reduction in the number of required parking spaces. Zoning currently requires a minimum of one parking space per three storage bays. If storage units were 150 square feet, there would be 215 units and a required 72 parking spaces.

The project was on the Tewksbury Planning Board's agenda for its Monday night meeting.

The board meets again Tuesday night for a Joint Housing Summit with the Zoning Board of Appeals and Housing Authority.
