Tewksbury Team Hope Walk For Huntington’s Disease Planned
The MA and Rhode Island Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America will host the Tewksbury Team Hope Walk Sept. 18 at 10 a.m.

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Massachusetts and Rhode Island Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) will host the Tewksbury Team Hope Walk on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at Tewksbury Hospital.
All proceeds support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington’s disease (HD) and their families, according to event organizers.
“I am very excited for the 2021 Tewksbury Team Hope Walk,” said Michael Miller, Event Coordinator. “HD is a family disease, and like every family we miss being together. Our goal is to raise funds and awareness to fight this devastating disease. Please join us if you can and/or donate to help us reach and hopefully exceed our goal. Family is everything.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Huntington's disease is a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It has a broad impact on a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement, thinking and psychiatric disorders.
Every child of a parent with Huntington's disease has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene. Today, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. The symptoms of the disease are described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s simultaneously.

Team Hope is HDSA’s largest national grassroots fundraising event, which takes place in over 100 cities across the U.S. and has raised more than $20 million for HD since its inception in 2007.
Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and communities walk together each year to support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington’s disease and their families.
