Tewksbury Woman Named AFI Coast Guard Spouse of the Year

TEWKSBURY, MA - Tewksbury resident Jennifer Mullen has been named the 2016 Armed Forces Insurance United States Coast Guard Spouse of the Year.

Jennifer's husband is a 1st Class Petty Officer in the Coast Guard, stationed on the USCGC Spencer out of Boston.

Out of 271 nominations, she has made to the top branch spouse including USCG District 1 Spouse of the Year covering from Maine to New York. She is in the running for the Overall 2016 AFI Military Spouse of the Year®, through popular vote and panel judging.

Jennifer says she works hard to provide a sense of community for her fellow Coast Guard families.

“It is important to understand that the Coast Guard is right in the trenches, and we have struggles for both the civilian and military community," she says. "We, like others, have to navigate the world finding resources that are specific to the Coast Guard.”

To help with gathering resources, she has co-founded a blog, The Coastie Voice, providing resources to the Coast Guard community for whatever life brings. And is applying her knowledge and surroundings in writing a children’s book for Coastie Kids.

The Military Spouse of the Year® award recognizes military spouses’ important contributions and unwavering commitment to the military community and our country. The overall winner and 2016 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year®, will be revealed at a VIP ceremony in Washington, D.C in early May.
