Tewksbury's Allison Luppi Named Little East Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Luppi is a member of the Class of 2016 at Eastern Connecticut State University and a member of the school's volleyball team.

Allison Luppi ‘16, of Tewksbury majoring in English, was named Little East Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week in volleyball.

Senior libero Allison Luppi played a central role when the Warriors handed six-time defending Little East Conference regular-season champion UMass Boston its first LEC regular-season loss since 2012 with a three-game sweep Saturday at Geissler Gymnasium. In a match where three sets were decided by a total of nine points, Luppi averaged over ten digs per set - nearly twice as many as her season average -- and made just one error on 30 reception attempts. She totaled half of the team’s digs in the match and nearly half of the team’s reception attempts. In the second set win which gave the Warriors a dominant 2-0 lead, Luppi was perfect on 15 reception tries. Luppi’s 70 digs in a 2-1 week (6.36 per set) moved her into the all-time Top 10 in career digs. She is ninth with a total of 1,390. Last week, she also handled 89 receptions with only three errors for a success mark of .966.

Five Eastern Connecticut State University athletes were cited during the third weekly Little East Conference awards report of the season, through matches of Sept. 20. The five awardees give Eastern ten selections in five fall sports (men’s soccer, women’s soccer, field hockey, women’s volleyball, and women’s cross country) in the program’s first three weeks. Eight different individuals have earned the award at least once this fall.
