Tewksbury's Fall Clean Up Day 2015 Was a Success

Despite cool temperatures and gloomy skies, the community came together on Saturday for Tewksbury’s Annual Fall Clean Up Day.

Sponsored by the Tewksbury Beautification Committee, 70 volunteers turned out to pick up trash and make Tewksbury a little cleaner this weekend.

Wolf Den Pack 49 tackled Livingston Street Recreation area and the road leading to it, led by Desma Kuras, and Girl Scout Troop 60245, led by Lori Gallant, worked on Main Street near the police station.

Students from Lowell Catholic earned community service hours for their participation, as did Tewksbury Memorial High student Eric Gallant.

Sarah and Travis Cohen, the Adams and Takach families from Tewksbury Congregational Church, and countless other individual contributors tackled roadside problem area, getting into the woods and tall grasses to retrieve garbage.

The Tewksbury Beautification’s co-chair Dan Elliman, along with Tewksbury Rail Trails Peter Miller drove pickup trucks around town collecting bags of trash and larger objects that volunteers had found along roadsides.

“While it’s sad that we have such a trash problem in Tewksbury, it is inspiring to see people really care about their town and be willing to work to make it a nicer place,” said Chairwoman Jackie Stone.

The committee would like to thank the Tewksbury DPW, Home Depot, The Pushcart Café, Orange Leaf, McDonald’s and the Tewksbury Police Department for their support of this bi-annual event.
