Duty to country is one of the pillars that Boy Scouts is built upon. This Troop recently traveled to the Niagara area of New York to learn firsthand about the history of our country. The trip included a visit to Old Fort Niagara, the site of President Teddy Roosevelt’s inauguration and historic Niagara Falls. The trip was capped off with a stay on the Navy cruiser the USS Little Rock, where the scouts learned about the history of that ship as well as the destroyer USS The Sullivans (named after the five Sullivan brothers who died aboard the USS Juneau when it was hit by a torpedo during WWII) and the submarine USS Croaker.
Funds raised through the plant sale help defray the cost of equipment and trips such as the trip to Niagara Supporting Troop 47 allow the troop to continue to combine educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
