Woman Brandishes Knife In Front Of Tewksbury Store: Police

Officers de-escalated the incident last week, and there were no injuries reported, police said.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A woman was brandishing a knife in front of a Tewksbury convenience store last week, according to police.

Police responded to a call at 1910 Andover St. at 6 p.m. March 28 on a report of a woman wielding a knife. The address is for the Extended Stay America hotel.

Officers arrived at the address to find "a woman in crisis," according to a police statement.

"Officers surrounded that woman and maintained a perimeter while using repeated verbal commands to de-escalate the situation until the woman dropped the knife and surrendered without incident," according to a police statement.

The 34-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and "to be connected with appropriate services," police said.

There were no injuries reported.

"I want to recognize the restraint showed by responding officers, in particular Officer David Aznavoorian, who was first on scene and who maintained his composure and distance while talking the woman into dropping her knife," Police Chief Ryan Columbus said in a statement. "Other officers provided appropriate backup and support, and the incident ended peacefully."
