TEWKSBURY, MA — A woman was charged with drunk driving for the third time following a head-on crash in Tewksbury on Friday, according to police.

Police responded to the area of North and East streets on a report of a crash at 3:36 p.m. A 2009 Toyota Corolla and a 2014 Subaru Forrester had collided near the intersection.

A man who was a passenger in the Corolla had fled the scene of the accident, and police couldn't find him.

Police investigated and found that Carole Hanley, 62, of Tewksbury, had turned onto North Street and crossed the double yellow line, going into the Subaru's path.

Officers detected the odor of alcohol on Hanley's breath, according to police.

She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be evaluated for injuries.

The Subaru's driver, who is pregnant, and a 10-month-old passenger were not injured in the accident.

Hanley was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, third offense; negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation, police said.

She is scheduled to appear in Lowell District Court on Monday.
