City Names Restaurants, Stores For Polaroid Site

Six new stores and restaurants are being considered for the shoppling complex planned for the former Polaroid site on Main Street, according to Waltham Mayor Jeanette McCarthy.

Starbucks, Marshall's, Bonefish Grill, 2Ovens, Jake & Joe's Sports Grille, and a major supermarket are all "being vetted" for the site, McCarthy announced in a statement to reporters. McCarthy did not specify which supermarket would be coming to the site, but Market Basket has previously said it wanted to open a store at the location.

Other technology and department stores are being considered for the site as well, McCarthy said. 

Also, the city and developer will be holding a contest to name the site, but the developer has final say over the name, according to McCarthy. The winner will receive a $250 gift card to Market Basket. More details on the contest will be announced at a later date. 

If approved, the Starbucks would be the city's first. Plans for a Starbucks in Waltham fell apart earlier this year.
