Area Residents Worried About Aircraft Noise Plan

Objections from nearby residents are slowing Logan Airport’s plan to install a new guidance system that would send additional air traffic and noise over Waltham, according to the Boston Globe.

Under the plan, a new aircraft GPS-based guidance system would be installed to guide planes more efficiently into the airport in Boston. That system, however, would create more noise over Waltham.

Residents in Dedham and Milton, which would also hear additional noise, told the Globe they want to maintain the current noise levels and evenly spread any additional decibels across other communities.

Also, City Councillor Tom Stanley has previously expressed concern over the additional noise Waltham would hear.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which proposed the plan, told the Globe the additional noise would be minimal.

Already, more than 800 individuals have signed an online petition against the plan. The FAA has extended the public comment deadline to March 15.
