Man Who Prompted Hunt Monday In Waltham Turns Himself In

WALTHAM, MA — The man wanted by Waltham Police in connection to an assault Monday morning that prompted a manhunt involving state police, k-9 and a helicopter, has turned himself in to the Waltham Police Department, police announced.

Waltham Police said they then arrested Darren Dyette,29, of South Boston and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), assault and battery with a deadly weapon (ground), strangulation or suffocation, two counts of witness intimidation and assault and battery on a household member and threat to murder.

He was also wanted on a warrant out of Boston for malicious destruction of a motor vehicle.

Dyette will be taken to Waltham District Court after he's booked, police said.

Monday morning as police searched the area of Bear Hill Road, residents were told to stay indoors and lock their doors by a reverse 911 alert system. Police asked the public to be on the lookout for a man wanted for an assault that happened at a hotel on Fourth Avenue and who was considered armed and dangerous. The search for the man, prompted a shelter in place at Waltham schools.
