Police Chief Investigation Funding Request To Be Discussed Tonight

Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix is facing charges for allegedly attacking his wife and her friend.

The Waltham City Council’s Finance Committee will review and discuss Mayor Jeannette McCarthy’s request to fund an internal affairs investigation of Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix during its meeting tonight.

LaCroix is facing serious charges for allegedly attacking his wife and her friend at his Maynard home in June 2012. He is currently on paid administrative leave and under house arrest.

McCarthy to hire a retired state police officer to conduct the investigation.  The investigation would determine whether LaCroix broke any of the police department’s rules and could lead to disciplinary action.

The meeting starts at immediately after the City Council's Committee of the Whole meeting at 8 p.m. at City Hall.

McCarthy has previously said an outside investigator was needed because having the Police Department investigate the chief would post a conflict of interest.

The Finance Committee rejected a similar $20,000 request in February with some councilors saying the investigation was unnecessary because LaCroix’s upcoming trial would reveal the same information a separate investigation would. The trial is scheduled to start March 27.
