Waltham Mayor Jeanette McCarthy Announces She Will Run Again
Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy said she will run because no one else is.

WALTHAM, MA — Mayor Jeannette McCarthy announced she will run again for mayor, Friday.
"Since no one has stepped forward to lead the city, therefore I will be a candidate for mayor," she said reading from a statement in a phone interview with Patch. “Committed to finish the city projects that have been deliberately stalled or tabled for years by the council leadership.”
The next election will be Nov. 5, 2019 for a four-year term, although it's not yet on the city calendar.

McCarthy, a longtime Waltham resident, was first elected mayor in 2003, and was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. McCarthy previously served two years as a Councilor-At-Large and six years on the Waltham School Committee, according to her city biography.
In 2017, she sent a letter to city council that said she didn't plan to run for a fifth term when her tenure as mayor ends in 2020.

Now the mayor said she will be continuing to focus on several projects including the building of a new fire station, police station and high school.
