Waltham Police Officer Released on Home Confinement

Waltham Police Officer Paul Manganelli is facing federal child pornography charges.

Waltham Police Officer Paul Manganelli, who is facing federal child pornography charges, was released to home confinement during a Thursday, March 28 court hearing, according to WCVB-TV.

A federal judge waived a detention hearing for Manganelli and allowed him to be released on several conditions, according to WCVB-TV report. Manganelli must submit to home confinment under his parents' supervision, stay off the Internet and have no contact with anybody under 18, except for relatives. Manganelli's parents live in Waltham, according to WHDH-TV.

An adult aware of the charges against Manganelli must supervise any contact with anybody under 18, accoring to WCVB. Manganelli must also wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, WHDH-TV reporter Steve Cooper tweeted.

Manganelli's parents cosigned a $50,000 unsecured to gain their son's release, according to the Boston Herald. 

Manganelli, 46, was arrested on Monday, March 25 at his Waltham home after FBI agents determined he had been trading child porn online. Manganelli is on paid administrative from the police department. He is facing a Waltham Police internal affairs investigation.

Manganelli claims he was doing reearch to stop pedophiles online, but Waltham Police said they never assigned to him to any investigation.
