Waltham Schools Open, Halloween At Your Discretion

Two days after the storm, Waltham is continuing to recover from Hurricane Sandy.

The Waltham Public Schools will be open today, according to Waltham Police. Also, trash pickup is proceeding on its regular schedule.

Whether to celebrate Halloween by going trick-or-treating is at your discretion. Unlike some Massachusetts communities, the Waltham city government has no role in organizing Halloween festivities or regulating what hours children can go trick-or-treating, according to the mayor's office. Waltham's 911 dispatch center advised parents to use thier judgment.

"Parents are advised to use their own discretion and please be safe," the dispatch center Tweeted. 

As of 7:30 p.m., 2,174 NStar customers were still withour power, totaling about 8 percent of the city, according to the company's outage map.
