Waltham Woman Allegedly Stole $350k From Condo Association
Lesley A. Correa allegedly used the money to pay for personal expenses.

A 41-year-old Waltham woman has been indicted on charges that she stole more than $350,000 from the in Waltham, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.
A Middlesex Superior Court grand jury has indicted Lesley A. Correa, the association's bookkeeper, on three counts of larceny over $250, according to a press release. She allegedly spent the cash on personal expenses.

No arraignment date has been scheduled yet.
“This defendant stole from over a hundred trusting homeowners who believed that the association and its employees would use their money to support improvements, repairs, maintenance and services at their condominium complex,” said Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone in a press release. “It is extremely troubling that this defendant stole hundreds of thousands of dollars and spent the money on personal items with reckless disregard for the needs of the association and its residents.”

Authorities believe Correa used the stolen funds to pay for personal expenses, including gasoline, electric and cable television bills for herself and family members, according to the press release. She also used the funds for to buy items at gas stations, Wal-Mart, Target, jewlery stores and beauty shops, according to the press release. She also used the money to pay for massages and trips to Mohean Sun, West Virginia and California.
The theft came to light in July 2011 after Correa delayed turning financial record's over to the association's accountant, according to the DA's office. After the accountant reviewed the records, he discovered the group's bank accounts were unusually low and that checks had been issued to credit card accounts and utility firms for items not related to housing business, according to the DA's office.
Later, the accountant discovered additional association bank records were "unreliable" and fake, according to the DA's office.
Correa took over bookeeping duties from her former husband, the association's managing superintendent, in June of 2010, according to the DA's office. The associated fired Correa in January.
Waltham Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office investigated the case.
