Calendar Showing Watertown Pride Now Available

The Watertown Police Foundation unveiled a calendar featuring photos from residents after the events of April 13.

Calendars featuring photos of Watertown residents displaying their pride after the events of April 19 can be ordered now and will be delivered in time for Christmas.

The Watertown Police Foundation came up with the idea to create the calendar and asked residents to submit their photos of Watertown after the manhunt for the Boston Marathon Bombers.

The request for photos came out at a strange time, just after the Rolling Stone issue featuring Dzhokhar Tsarnaev came out, and people may have been confused, said Jay Darby, an attorney and member of the Foundation.

"People thought it might be something like that, or show bullet holes and might glorify violence," Darby said. "What we were doing all along is a series of photos from around Watertown."

Foundation member Steve Messina had noticed that signs were popping up around thanking the police and saying "Watertown Strong." He began taking photos, Darby said, and thought others might have their own pictures.

The response from the community was huge, Darby said. Around 500 photos were submitted.

The calendar has around 6 to 8 photos per page, Darby said, so close to 100 will be in it. Others will be displayed on the Watertown Police Foundation website

Orders for the calendars can now be made online (click here to order), and will be delivered by mid-December. They will also be on sale at locations around Watertown, including Donohue's Bar & Grill, Joe's Variety, J&S Carpet and more.
