Pasquale “Pat” Sclafani, 100, Former State Rep., Ran Insurance Agency

Sciafani also served on the Board of Selectman in Watertown and other boards in town.

Pasquale "Pat" Scaifani of Watertown died on Oct. 24 at the age of 100.

He grew up in Boston's North End, attended Boston English High School and got a law degree from Northeastern University. In 1944 he married Ilda Alberico, left the North End and settled in Watertown where he resided for 60 years, according to an obituary on the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home.

He served as a Town Meeting member and a Library Trustee. In the early 1960s, Pat became Watertown first Italian-American Democrat elected to the office of Selectman and was re-elected thereafter for several consecutive terms. In 1970 Pat was elected to the House of Representatives for Watertown in the 5th Middlesex District and was subsequently re-elected for a second term. He ws elected to Watertown Charter Commission in the 1980s.

Sciafani owned P. Sclafani Insurance, where he was still active in the family business until 89 years old. 

He was the husband of the late Ilda (Alberico) Sclafani; father of Samuel P. Sclafani and his wife Susan of Watertown and Patti Sclafani-Hinkley and her husband Earl Hinkley of Wellesley; brother of Nina Rizza of Manchester, Conn., Gussie Marinelli of Raymond, N.H. and the late Lillian Vitale, Tony, Michael and Rosaria Sclafani; grandfather of Christina Sclafani, Jennifer Sclafani-Hamilton and Elizabeth Hinkley; and Great-grandfather of Ella and Zoe Hamilton. 

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 28 at St. Patrick's Church in Watertown. Interment was at St. Patrick Cemetery in Watertown.
