Lockdown Lifted At Perkins School For The Blind After Threat: Police

The Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown went into lockdown after receiving a threatening call Tuesday morning, police said.

WATERTOWN, MA — The Perkins School for the Blind has been deemed safe following a Tuesday lockdown due to a threatening phone call, Watertown police said.

The school received the threatening call around 10:45 a.m., police said. As of around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon, the lockdown has been lifted and normal activities have resumed, according to police.

A community member who asked to remain anonymous told Patch that according to their sister—an employee at Perkins—the school went into lockdown around 11:15 a.m. and people barricaded in classrooms.

The lockdown was a "precautionary measure" for the safety of the students and staff, police said in their statement Tuesday morning.

Helicopters and police cars swarmed the area, according to the community member.
