VIDEO: Governors' Fear 'Exactly What ISIS Wants'

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is among a group of mostly Republican governors who don't want to shelter Syrian refugees.

Gov. Charlie Baker joined a growing chorus of mostly Republican governors expressing fear that terrorists could pose as refugees and gain easy access to the United States.

Baker announced yesterday that he is not open to sheltering the refugees in Massachusetts, implying that welcoming them to the commonwealth could posr a threat to the safety and security of residents here.

“I would say no as of right now,” Baker said at the State House Monday. “No, I’m not interested in accepting refugees from Syria. My view on this is the safety and security of the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is my highest priority. So I would set the bar very high on this.”

The governor’s stance is of concern to at least one family in Watertown, who faced a long vetting process before being allowed into the United States from Syria. The family said Syrians are generally peaceful people who would contribute to American society, and by refusing to welcome them, governors are feeding into the fear terrorist groups like ISIS are trying to instill.
