4-Day Week For Wayland Town Employees In August
The Wayland town building will be closed Fridays during a test of the new schedule in August.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will test a new working schedule for town employees in August, squeezing the typical 40-hour week into four days.
That will mean the town building will be closed on Fridays throughout August, with longer hours every other day of the week.
The test begins Monday and will end by Sept. 1, according to Town Manager Michael McCall. The temporary hours will be as follows:

Town Building
- Mondays — 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Tuesdays — 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesdays — 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Thursdays — 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

- Mondays — 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Tuesdays — 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Wednesdays — 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursdays — 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The shortened workweek won't affect parks and recreation and Council on Aging programs, and library hours will not change. As usual, police and fire services will remain 24/7.
Wayland isn't alone in compressing business days for municipal functions. Sudbury switches to a summer schedule every season with a four-day week for most town offices. For several years, Framingham's city hall has operated with reduced Friday hours.
