"As a follow up, Mike Lowery updated the BoPW regarding the AG's finding in the last BoPW meeting, apologized for the mistake and entered the items in question for the public record. Prior to that, he and the Board had worked with staff to set up a facility to capture all BoPW e-mail communications that go to a quorum of members to ensure the Board is in compliance." - Michael Wegerbauer
Wayland Sees Increase in Large-Capacity Gun Permits
- "Fact – the second amendment does protect the rights of people to own and carry guns (so say the Supreme Court – see the District of Columbia case last year) . Fact – no constitutional right is absolute (you cannot yell “fire” in a crowded theater). The government can place restrictions on fire arms – period. I am a gun owner myself and I have a Class A license to carry and I own a large capacity semi-automatic pistol. What these numbers show is I am not alone – I was under the impression I was one of a few dozen. These numbers are going to take the taboo out of ownership. What I cannot understand is if having a 10 round clip restriction MAY save 1 child – what’s the problem. So I will have to re-load at the range more often – small price to pay for ONE life. I canceled my NRA membership the day after their press conference – they represent small minded people and that is not me….." - Bill
- "Fact--in 1896, in Plessy v. Ferguson, the Supreme Court ruled that 'separate but equal' institutions did not violate the constitution. In 1857, in Dred Scott v. Sanford, the Supreme Court ruled that black people were inferior to white people and "altogether unfit to associate with the right race." Sadly Bill, the Supreme Court is not infallible. It is made errors--in the eyes of history--that have caused bloodshed, violence, and extreme mistreatment. It is not unreasonable to state that they made the same mistake in the D.C. case. The Court has rarely dealt with 2nd Amendment cases--there is time for them to get it right, and to make sure that others can not own a large-capacity semi-automatic pistol as you do. That will make our community a safer place." - DHS
